Miranda S. & Kritameth P.

Thesis Statement:

The USS Maine was the pride of the American people.  It signified the power that America needed to protect the nation that had been weakened from the internal conflicts of the Civil War. The explosion of the USS Maine was a turning point in the United States' history, for it acted as the catalyst to declare war on Spain.  It united the country with the desire to go to war, changed the issue of war from a foreign to domestic issue, and pressured the government into a war they were unprepared for.
